Site remediation was a main challenge on this project in Palm Beach Co., Fla.

Suffolk Construction built this six-building, 280,000-sq-ft high school between an existing middle school and elementary school. The contract required extensive site work, such as numerous retention ponds, a football stadium and ball fields. Though it was known that the eight-acre site contained some contaminated soil, the extent was unknown. After the start of the contract, the project team discovered that the site had previously been an illegal dumping ground and contained large amounts of arsenic. Contractors fast-tracked a site decontamination plan without impacting the schedule or budget.
