A joint venture of two Miami-area firms is leading the construction of the $360-million Earlington Heights-MIC Connector, a 2.4-mi rail line that will link the Miami Intermodal Center, under construction next to Miami International Airport, with Miami’s Metrorail transit system.

The joint-venture construction team is a 50/50 partnership between OHL USA of Miami and Odebrecht Construction of Coral Gables, Fla. The OHL team also includes two OHL subsidiaries, Community Asphalt and Tower-OHL Group.

The line will be built between the MIC and Metrorail’s existing Earlington Heights Station. The project’s scope includes the Metrorail guideway extension to the MIC and a passenger station adjacent to the MIC complex, three substations, bus station and upgrade and construction of several connecting roadways. The project includes an elevated guideway.

The MIC will serve as a central transportation hub for MIA, including a consolidated rental car center; bus depot for public and private lines;, and access to Metrorail, Tri-Rail and Amtrak.

The project will provide improved access to the airport from Downtown Miami, Dadeland and Hialeah.
