Burnham Institute Certified LEED Gold

Text size: A A

The Burnham Institute for Medical Research at Lake Nona, in Orlando, Fla., has been certified LEED Gold by the U.S. Green Building Council.

The 175,000-sq-ft facility features a “high albedo roof,” made of a white, reflective membrane that reflects heat to lower the air conditioning requirements. Glazed windows transmit more than 50% exterior light while blocking 75% of the solar heat.

“We incorporated a high performance exterior glass to conserve energy and implemented an energy recovery system to efficiently pre-condition incoming air,” said architect Pat Bosch, design principal at Perkins + Will.
