Hendrick to Build Intimidator Coaster at Carowinds

Text size: A A

Charlotte, N.C.-based Hendrick Construction was awarded a contract to build a new roller coaster at Carowinds. The amusement park is touting the 23-story-tall Intimidator as the “tallest, fastest and longest roller coaster in the Southeast.”

The NASCAR-themed coaster—named for the late Dale Earnhardt—will feature a 5,316-ft-long track with a 232-ft peak.

Hendrick will perform site work, construct the track’s foundations, install control systems and provide site amenities.

The ride’s foundations will be supported by 241 caissons and require approximately 240,000 lbs of rebar and 375,000 lbs of concrete. The ride is scheduled to open in spring 2010.
