2004 Best Concrete Project

250 Park Avenue

Project Team
Owner: Battalia Properties
Location: Winter Park, Fla.
Cost: $13.6 million
Concrete Contractor: Gate Precast Co., Kissimmee, Fla.
General Contractor: Jack Jennings & Sons, Orlando
Architect: Farmer Baker Barrios Architects, Orlando

Gate Precast Co.'s charge on this 250 Park Avenue project was to utilize its architectural precast concrete panels to transform the exterior of an existing, occupied building using "old-style" tavern brick to blend in with the area's historic district. The company's skilled craftsmen created detailed forms that displayed the owner's motif in a repetitious theme on the spandrels.

The project was undertaken to revitalize the existing building. As a result, the project's architect, Farmer Baker Barrios of Orlando, was looking for a new exterior system to cover the existing cladding. Though the design firm originally chose hand-set brick to accomplish this, Gate Precast proposed during the rendering stage that the project convert to brick inlay architectural precast panels.

The project measured approximately 120,000 sq. ft. and included roughly 33,580 sq. ft. of architectural precast concrete.
