Collective Florida Revenue for
2001 Exceeds $2.2 Billion as List Grows to 90
By Scott Judy
Southeast Construction-Florida Edition presents its second
annual ranking of the states Top Specialty Contractors.
Compared to last years inaugural ranking of such firms,
this years list has grown significantly, from 50 specialty
contractors to 90. Accordingly, the revenue listed has increased
as well. In all, the 90 firms listed here collectively reported
2001 Florida revenue in excess of $2.2 billion, up from last
years state total of approximately $1.6 billion.
Like last year, our look at the states top specialty
firms is multi-faceted. First, we included an overall ranking
based on the firms revenue generated from projects within
the state of Florida during 2001. Within this main, overall
ranking, readers will find the most extensive information
about the ranked firms, including the address for their company
headquarters, telephone and fax numbers, the name of the firms
principal officer, as well as a percentage breakdown of the
companys revenue by work category.
Weve also included a ranking based on a companys
total revenue. This provides a different view of the companies
doing business here in the state of Florida. For the vast
majority of respondents, the figures for Florida and Total
were the same. However, the national firms were able to drive
this figure all the way to nearly $10.3 billion.
Finally, weve also included some breakout rankings,
where we list the top firms in 17 different specialty categories.
These categories include: mechanical; electrical; plumbing;
utility; roofing; sheet metal; concrete; masonry; painting;
fire prevention; telecommunications; wall/ceiling; excavation/foundation;
steel erection; demolition/wrecking; flooring; and fabrication.
Within these breakout rankings, we listed the top five firms
if there were that many firms with revenue in a particular
category. If fewer than five firms specialized in a category,
we listed the top three.
In all, 14 different companies find themselves at the top
of one of these lists. (Some firms find themselves at the
top of a couple of lists.) We congratulate them on their success,
and wish them continued good fortune through 2002.
