Michael J. Choutka was named executive vice president and Southern division manager for Hensel Phelps Construction Co. in Orlando.
Choutka began his career with Hensel Phelps in 1991 and became vice president and Southeast district manager in 2005. In his new position, he will oversee the Southeast and Southwest districts in Orlando and Austin, Texas, respectively.
The company also promoted Kirk J. Hazen to vice president and Southeast district manager. Hazen began his career with Hensel Phelps in 1990 and most recently served as manager of work procurement.
Gilbane Building Co. has named Robert C. Zerbe vice president. Zerbe is an 11-year veteran of the company and serves as regional controller in the Southeast regional office in Atlanta.
Zerbe has been with Gilbane in a variety of financial management positions. He joined Gilbane as a senior regional accounting supervisor and was promoted to regional controller.
Barbara Mabie has joined Miller Construction Co. in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., as chief financial officer. She has 17 years of financial management experience with two of Florida’s leading real estate development companies. She most recently worked as director of accounting and financial reporting for the St. Joe Co. in Jacksonville, Fla.
Brian Trusky has been promoted at Moss & Associates in Fort Lauderdale to the position of vice president–loss prevention, responsible for the company’s safety, claim and environmental initiatives. He is a 19-year construction industry veteran, and joined Moss & Associates in 2004 as safety director.
In his newly expanded role, Trusky will ensure compliance with local, state and federal health and safety regulations, manage insurance programs and workers compensation items, and coordinate environmental permitting. He also is responsible for training and education in construction safety, health, stormwater and environmental permitting.
The company also hired Neil L. Hammack to lead its expansion in the health-care market. As vice president–health care, Hammack will be based in Tampa, with statewide responsibilities. In addition to overseeing health-care projects, Hammack will manage Moss’ other Tampa Bay commercial operations.
Consulting firm Dewberry announced that S. Allen Groover, the firm’s hazard engineering service-Southeast branch manager in Atlanta, was named vice president. Groover has been with the firm for 10 years and is presently responsible for managing staff in five southeastern states.
Also, Daniel R. Koenigshofer, principal of IES Engineers-Dewberry in Chapel Hill, N.C., was named vice president. Koenigshofer has been with the firm since IES Engineers joined the Dewberry companies in October 2007.
Also in Chapel Hill, Donald R. Burroughs, a senior mechanical engineer, was named senior associate; and Charles T. Worthy, Jr., a senior project manager, and Robert A. Wolff were named associates.
Kurt Kehoe is now heading the Central Florida office for Altman Development Corp. in Orlando. He will be responsible for business growth in the central and northern Florida regions, as well as Texas. Kehoe joined the firm’s Central Florida office as senior vice president in 2006.
The company also hired Tim Graff as development associate in its Central Florida office. Graff most recently worked with Trammel Crow Residential.
George “Geordie” H. Selkirk has joined the Chapel Hill, N.C., office of Lord, Aeck & Sargent as a senior associate and senior project manager. Selkirk brings a diverse background of institutional and private sector experience, including university science and housing and mixed-use projects.
Selkirk came to Lord, Aeck & Sargent from The Freelon Group Architects of Durham, N.C.
Thomas J. Wood, Jr. has rejoined BRPH Cos. of Melbourne, Fla., as a project architect. He will focus on governmental and commercial facilities.
In Atlanta, BRPH hired Michael Davidek as a project manager. Davidek has more than 18 years of architecture and construction experience.
In its Orlando office, BRPH hired William J. Issitt as director of preconstruction.
Jennifer Amster, director of higher education projects for architecture firm BJAC in Raleigh, N.C., was named a partner with the firm. She has worked in the architectural industry for 20 years and with BJAC for nearly 10 years.
John R. Thomas has joined design firm WK Dickson in Charlotte, N.C., as director of land planning and landscape architecture. Thomas is a vice president and practice area leader with the firm.
Miles F. Holcombe has joined Atlanta-based consulting and engineering firm Newcomb & Boyd as a security engineer. Previously, Holcombe was an applications engineer with Facility Robotics in Roswell, Ga.
Also, Robert C. Grant joined the firm as a plumbing engineer, and Julian Z. Parham was hired as a mechanical engineer.
Inwood Consulting Engineers of Oviedo, Fla., added Eric Wilkinson and Greg Hill to the firm’s utilities division.
Wilkinson has joined the firm as an engineer intern, and Hill has joined the firm as a CADD Designer.
Bill Wilson has joined Universal Painting Corp. in Lakeland, Fla., as division manager of the specialty coatings division. The company is a painting and special coating contractor.
RWA of Naples, Fla., hired Dan Novakovich as senior landscape architect. Novakovich has more than 25 years of landscape architecture and land planning experience.
Mark Woehrle has been promoted to vice president of operations and special projects at Shaw Mechanical Services in Orlando. Employed by Shaw Mechanical since 2003, he most recently served vice president of operations.
Christopher Cooke has joined Stevens Construction in Fort Myers, Fla., as project manager. He will oversee projects in the Central Florida market. Cooke has 18 years of project management experience.
Breaking Ground Contracting Co., a commercial general contracting firm headquartered in Jacksonville, Fla., has hired three new staff members: Susan Bivins, Robin Ackerman and Sammi Livingston.
Bivins, with more than 20 years of construction experience, was hired as a project manager. She formerly served as president of her own general contracting firm for six years.
Ackerman was hired as construction assistant. She previously worked for the State of Florida’s Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
Livingston, a graduate of Montana University, was hired as administrative assistant.
The company also hired Catherine Burkee as director of education services. She was previously human resource manager and vice president of purchasing for a major mechanical contractor. She will focus on expanding Breaking Ground’s education services division.
David White has joined planning, urban design, landscape architecture and entertainment design firm MSI in Orlando as a senior associate.
The Scott Partnership Architecture added Emily Weidner to its Orlando staff as project coordinator in its multifamily residential division. She also provides consulting to project managers regarding LEED/environmental building issues. She was formerly a project manager with Ustler Development, a real estate development company located in Orlando.
Julio A. Alegre has joined McMahon Associates in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., as a project manager in the firm’s traffic department. Alegre has been involved in transportation engineering since 1994.
