Names In The News - June 2008

Ananth K. Prasad is joining HNTB Corp. as Department of Transportation market sector leader for the firm’s Southeast division. Prasad, who most recently served as chief engineer for the Florida DOT, has more than 17 years of experience in construction inspection and engineering, alternative contract delivery techniques and public-private partnerships and transportation policies.

He will serve clients from the firm’s Tallahassee, Fla., office.

Prasad will be responsible for coordinating the firm’s service offerings to transportation departments throughout the Southeast.

Also, Joseph Sawmiller has joined HNTB Corp.’s Tampa office as leader for the firm’s Florida aviation practice. He has 17 years of experience in airport civil and environmental engineering and project management.

Sawmiller previously served as group manager with PBS&J.


Balfour Beatty Construction announced several promotions within its Atlanta-based military housing group. Bob Jackson and Carl Frinzi were each promoted to the position of senior vice president/business unit leader.

Also, Peter Wojtowicz was promoted to senior vice president of preconstruction, and Steve Hutcheson was appointed vice president/controller.

Additionally, Vicki James was promoted to vice president of contracts and purchasing administration.


Garry Jones has joined URS Corp. in Atlanta as director for airport construction services. Jones, an aviation and airport industry veteran formerly with Delta Air Lines, will be responsible for business development and project delivery for program management and construction management services for airport and airline clients in the U.S. and abroad.


Frank W. Aiello has joined engineering firm TBE Group of Clearwater, Fla., as aviation manager. He will provide technical expertise on aviation projects and promote the firm’s aviation services to airports in Florida.

Aiello previously worked at the St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport as airport engineer.


The Beck Group, a design-build firm in Tampa, has hired Eric Kreher as its principal architect in Florida. Kreher earned a master’s degree in architecture from the University of Florida in 1983. Prior to joining Beck, he was principal of Kreher Architects.


Rob Couch has joined real-estate firm Lane Company of Atlanta as president of its property management subsidiary, Lane Management. He previously worked as president of Centrum Management.

Also, Reed Marill has joined the firm as an asset manager. Reed joins Lane with over 20 years of commercial real estate experience.


Gary DeMond has been hired by Stevens Construction of Fort Myers, Fla., to oversee business development initiatives. He will be responsible for analyzing potential market opportunities throughout Southwest Florida.


Michelle T. Bunn has joined Newcomb & Boyd in Atlanta as a mechanical engineer. She is a recent graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Also, Kristina H. Brooks has been named marketing manager.


Kirsten West Peetz has joined Bowyer-Singleton & Associates in Orlando as a senior environmental scientist. She has more than six years of experience in environmental engineering. She previously worked for the Orange County Environmental Protection Division.


James Coe and Christopher Johnston were named senior vice presidents at Syska Hennessy Group in Atlanta, a consulting, engineering, technology and construction firm.

Coe joined Syska Hennessy in 2006, and in late 2007 became national operations manager for critical facilities operations. Johnston serves as chief engineer for Syska Hennessy’s National Critical Facilities team.


Michael Fuller and Michael Tippy have joined the Tampa office of Cutler Associates, a construction management and design-build firm. Fuller, with 15 years of industry experience, was named senior estimator. Tippy was hired as project superintendent.


Suffolk Construction Co. of West Palm Beach, Fla., announced five promotions and the addition of 12 new employees.

Tim Sterling, formerly project executive, was named vice president of the Miami business unit. Gary Armstrong, formerly general superintendent, was promoted to vice president of construction operations. Dan Finch, formerly senior project manager, was named project executive of the Miami business unit. Gordon Knapp, formerly project executive, was promoted to vice president of preconstruction services. Matt Slater, formerly a project manager, was named senior project manager for education.

New employees include: Nelly Cortez-Moore, project administrator; Jeffrey Gouveia, operations manager; Timothy Havill, project engineer; Melissa Skelton, marketing coordinator; Chris Smith, senior superintendent; Max Tojeiro, senior project manager; Mark Tulin, safety supervisor; Antonio Uzcategui, assistant project manager; Ben Vidiella, assistant project manager; Darwell White, assistant superintendent; Karla White, project administrator; and Emily Zorrilla, proposal specialist.


Miller Construction Co. of Fort Lauderdale has promoted Brian Sudduth to vice president of preconstruction, responsible for overseeing and coordinating design/build, design assist and project estimates. He was previously director of preconstruction.


James N. Copeland was named to lead the North Carolina K-12 design team for Raleigh, N.C.-based Moseley Architects. Since 1987, Copeland has served as one of Moseley Architects’ school design principals.


James Carlson has joined construction manager FaverGray in Jacksonville, Fla., as director of construction. Prior to joining FaverGray, Carlson served as vice president and director of construction of the general commercial group at The Haskell Co., also in Jacksonville.


Hardin Construction Co. in Orlando has promoted Borja Del Nido to senior project manager. Del Nido began his career with Hardin in 2004 and has served as assistant project manager and project manager.


Michael Waldrop was named vice president of construction for McCree General Contractors & Architects in Orlando. He previously worked as vice president of business development.


Crosland of Charlotte, N.C., a real estate firm, has appointed Jenny Vallimont to lead its sustainable development initiatives. Vallimont will lead efforts to incorporate sustainable practices across all of Crosland’s developments.


Denise F. Young has joined the Sarasota, Fla., office of Kraft Construction Co. as a business development representative. She will be responsible for sales and marketing activities, including client management and generating new business opportunities, throughout the Sarasota and Tampa Bay areas.

Young has more than 12 years of industry-related experience.


Steven Barrow has joined Sutter Roofing of Sarasota, Fla., as director of business development. Barrow was previously sales manager of Circle L Roofing, also in Sarasota.


Miller Legg, a consulting firm in Pembroke Pines, Fla., promoted three employees to the position of associate. These include: George Botner, regional service manager for landscape architecture; Marc Hawes, senior engineer for environmental engineering; and Lawrence Wright, senior designer for civil engineering.

Also, Michael Chance joined Miller Legg to lead the subsurface utility engineering services field team. Chance has more than 15 years of technical experience.


John “Robbie” W. Roberson has joined the multifamily division of Palmer Electric Co. in Winter Park, Fla., as a senior estimator. Roberson has more than 27 years of electrical contracting estimating experience.
