Names In The News - May 2008

Bill Blank has been named president of Balfour Beatty Construction’s Southeast Commercial Group in Charlotte, N.C. Blank had served as the division’s senior vice president and chief operations officer since 2005. In his new position, he will have responsibility for commercial construction activity of the company’s offices in Charlotte, Raleigh, N.C., and Atlanta.

Additionally, Jim Taylor was named president of the company’s Military Housing Group. Taylor is based in Atlanta.



Jill Wells Heath has assumed the role of chief executive officer of Mulkey Engineers & Consultants, a civil engineering and consulting firm in Raleigh, N.C. Heath has been with the firm since its inception and has served as its CPA, chief financial officer and was appointed to the role of president in 2006. She will now serve as CEO and president.


The firm also announced that Eric Huffine was hired as the land development group manager in the Roswell, Ga., office. He has 15 years of civil engineering experience.


Martin F. Boyle was promoted to vice president of STV Inc. in Charlotte, N.C., where he continues to serve as rail systems practice leader for the firm’s national transportation and infrastructure division. STV is an engineering, architectural, planning and construction management firm.

Boyle was construction manager-systems for the recently opened Charlotte Area Transit System South Corridor light rail transit project.


Matt Welch was promoted to president and chief operating officer at Elkins Constructors of Jacksonville, Fla. Welch previously served as executive vice president. He succeeds former president Barry Allred, who remains the company’s chairman and chief executive officer.

Also, Joe Newell was promoted to chief financial officer.

Additionally, upon the retirement of Mike Murray, Rob Crowe was promoted to the position of senior vice president of retail.


Robert Utsey was promoted to senior vice president of business development for Skanska USA Building in Orlando. Utsey joined Skanska in 2000, and has more than 15 years of sales and marketing experience.


Patrick O'Donnell has joined real-estate firm Lane Southeast in Atlanta as development partner. He was previously vice president of development for Place Properties, an Atlanta-based real estate development firm.


Bruce Woloshin has joined consulting engineering firm Terracon Consultants as a principal and the regional manager for geotechnical engineering and materials testing services for the Orlando and Tampa offices.


Wesley Dortch joined HDR’s Jacksonville, Fla., office as the port/marine business class leader.


Frank McCormack was named business developer for South Carolina for Southern Industrial Constructors/Southern Crane in Columbia, S.C.


Alex Zalez was named senior vice president for Garcia Stromberg Architecture in Boca Raton, Fla. He first joined the firm in 2001 as a project director.

Also, Michelle Caldwell was named executive vice president. Caldwell also serves as chief financial officer.


Lee Jarboe has joined the Atlanta office of McCarthy Building Cos. as a business development director. She will focus on the university and K-12 sectors throughout the Southeast.


Willson “Will” Williams has joined Warren and Associates Design-Build in Greenville, S.C., as director-business development. He most recently served as project manager-global business development for the South Carolina Department of Commerce.

Also, Dale Ambrose joined the company as a superintendent.


Clancy & Theys Construction Co. in Orlando hired Phil Vargas and John Weaver as assistant project managers, and John Haritan as assistant superintendent.

The company also promoted Joe Johnston to superintendent.


Andrew General Contractors in Orlando promoted William Demshar to project manager and hired Will Marsh as a project manager.


Kristine M. Gregonis was promoted to vice president for VOA Associates of Orlando, an architecture, planning and interior design firm.


RS&H hired Stephen Nichols in its Orlando office as a senior project manager within its transportation and public infrastructure program.

Also, John Bottaro was elected to the firm’s board of directors in Jacksonville, Fla. Bottaro serves as RS&H’s commercial and institutional program director.


Nathan Marty has rejoined Auld & White Constructors of Jacksonville, Fla., as a project manager. He previously worked for the company from 2002 to 2005.

Also, Susan Evans was promoted to business development manager. She has more than 18 years of marketing and business development experience.


Jennifer Hamilton has joined PSI’s Orlando operations as a staff scientist.

The Orlando office also hired John Malkowski as environmental field services department manager. The firm named Angela Garzia as a principal consultant for PSI’s remediation design and construction service line.

Also, Alberto Brioso has joined PSI’s Orlando operations as a senior environmental scientist.


Nils Thompson has been named an associate and manager of the Kennesaw, Ga., office of Leggette, Brashears & Graham, a groundwater and environmental engineering services firm.


SchenkelShultz Architecture of Orlando promoted Modupe Arthur to associate. Arthur has 10 years of professional experience.


Kevin Hebert was hired as the regional office manager for civil-engineering firm Bowyer-Singleton’s branch in St. Augustine, Fla. He will oversee the office and provide design guidance and client coordination.


Gerry Cafiero was named business development manager and Robert Tolsma senior project manager in the ports and marine group of Parsons Brinckerhoff.

Based in Miami, Cafiero will be responsible for pursuing new business opportunities for ports and marine projects in the southeastern and central U.S. Prior to joining PB, he was assistant port director, seaport operations for the Miami-Dade County Seaport Department, responsible for engineering and operations at the Port of Miami.

Tolsma is based in PB’s Tallahassee, Fla., office. He has more than 37 years of design and construction experience.


Adam Grabiec has joined the Charlotte, N.C., office of architecture firm BJAC as a project architect. He has more than eight years of architectural experience.


Michael Presti has joined GLE Associates of Tampa as a project architect. He previously worked for Hayes Cumming Architects in St. Petersburg.


Miller Construction Co. of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., rehired Karl Bauer and Chris Hauser.

Bauer is a project engineer working in Miami. Hauser is a project manager working in Naples, Fla.


Michael S. Beyers has joined MACTEC’s facility lifecycle group in Kennesaw, Ga., as a senior data analyst.


Whitney Varner was promoted to director, marketing and public relations for Atlanta-based Hardin Construction Co. She joined Hardin in 2001, and was named manager of marketing and public relations in 2005.


Paul Carty has rejoined State Contracting and Engineering Corp. in Hollywood, Fla., as vice president. For the past 12 years, he had worked at Pirtle Construction Co.


David Dickson was promoted to operations manager for the St. Augustine, Fla., office of Environmental Services Inc.


Randall Hendra has joined RWA as a project manager in the firm’s survey division in Naples, Fla.


Nancy Glidden Oliver was named director of marketing for the Palm City, Fla., office of design firm Oliver-Glidden-Spina & Partners.


Karen Papke was promoted to the position of vice president for Westcoast Structural in Fort Myers, Fla. Papke previously worked as office manager for the past eight years. She has more than 23 years experience in the construction industry, including 12 years in the concrete and masonry business.


The law firm of Stearns Weaver Miller hired John M. Fox-Snider and George A. Pincus as shareholders in its Fort Lauderdale real estate practice.
