Names In The News - March 2008

Skanska USA Building has tapped Joey Hatch and John Reyhan to oversee the company’s operations in Georgia. Hatch, co-chief operating officer, is adding the Georgia region to his duties, while Reyhan was named the new area general manager for the company’s Georgia operations.

Hatch, who joined Skanska in 1998, will continue to serve as the co-COO of Skanska’s Tennessee and Texas operations. He also oversees the company’s Healthcare Center of Excellence.

Reyhan has more than 21 years of industry experience, and also joined Skanska in 1998. He previously served as senior vice president of the Georgia region.


Suffolk Construction of West Palm Beach promoted the following five employees: Jason Diven, formerly a project engineer, was named assistant project manager; Mario Beauchamp, formerly a project manager, was named senior project manager; Joe Stamp, formerly a senior project manager, was named project executive; and Elisha Alexander and Victor Nieves, both formerly project engineers, were named assistant project managers.


David J. Dale was named president of general contractor Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. in Fort Myers, Fla. He replaces Steve Shimp, founder and current president. 

Dale joined OAK in 1989 as a jobsite superintendent. He became vice president of operations in 2004 and was appointed to the company’s board of directors.

Shimp will continue as the company’s chairman of the board.


Mary Conway has joined HNTB Corp. in Miami as a senior project manager, focusing on the firm’s roadway design projects in South Florida. Conway has 18 years of engineering and management experience. She previously served as chief of operations and capital improvements director for the City of Miami.

Also, HNTB’s Lake Mary, Fla., office named Scott Dean as officer-in-charge and associate vice president. Dean previously served as the office operations manager and the assistant department manager of HNTB’s structures group. He has more than 14 years of experience in a variety of transportation programs.

In Charlotte, David Utterback has joined HNTB as a senior landscape architect. He will be responsible for the facilitation and expansion of the firm’s landscape architectural services in the Southeast. He has 36 years of professional experience.


RLF, an architecture, engineering and interior design firm based in Winter Park, Fla., promoted Sanford “Sandy” L. Cohn and Charles A. Hutchison to the position of project director. Cohn and Hutchison will be responsible for client management, administration and planning, and design direction for the firm’s core operation teams.


Abdel F. Martel has returned to the Miami office of Leo A. Daly as director of operations. Martel has more than 14 years of leadership and project management experience. Prior to his return to Leo A. Daly, Martel worked as a senior project manager for the Florida region of Jones Lang LaSalle’s Project and Development Services Group.


Edward “Joe” O’Grady has rejoined the staff of the Southeast Cement Association in Lawrenceville, Ga., as cement stabilization specialist for the Carolinas. He’ll promote the use of soil cement and full-depth reclamation using cement.


Mark Fenton and Anthony Long have joined the management team of general contracting company Roepnack Corp. in Pompano Beach, Fla. Fenton has more than 35 years of construction industry experience. Long has more than 15 years of residential and commercial construction experience.


Tony Melton has joined Collins Engineers in Orlando as director of transportation. He has more than 24 years of transportation engineering experience.


Robert Gibson was promoted to senior project manager for Hennessy Construction Services in St. Petersburg, Fla. He began his career as a project superintendent for Hennessy in 1995. He previously served as project manager.


Raleigh, N.C.-based BJAC has hired Lorraine Anderson as a computer-aided drafting manager, first-tier IT support and draftsman. The firm also added Tapati Bose to the firm’s staff as an intern architect.

In its Charlotte office, BJAC hired Jonathan Hutchinson as project architect. Hutchinson has more than 13 years of architectural experience.


Concorde Construction Co., a general contractor based in in Charlotte, N.C., has hired Dan Kerber as a project manager, and George Kelley as a project superintendent.


Brian Griffis of Gate Precast Co. was promoted to sales and marketing manager for Florida. He will be responsible for architectural precast sales and marketing efforts for Gate’s manufacturing facilities in Kissimmee and Sarasota, Fla.


Ajani Stewart has joined consulting firm Miller Legg as an environmental scientist in the firm’s Pembroke Pines, Fla., office. Stewart holds a masters of business administration degree in environmental management from Florida Atlantic University.

Also based in Pembroke Pines is Darren Badore, who was promoted to regional service manager. A 13-year veteran of the firm, he most recently worked as manager of engineering in the firm’s Fort Lauderdale office.


Mel Burges, chief financial officer for Alpharetta, Ga.-based Harcon, was named the treasurer of the Construction Financial Management Association.


Chris Paren has joined Orlando-based Tilt-Con Corp. as project engineer. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida’s M.E. Rinker School of Building Construction.


Newcomb & Boyd of Atlanta has named Donald L. Walker and Joel B. Wells as senior associates.

Also, Jason M. Conner, William A. Dryden, Michael D. Ernst, Laura A. Rafter, Jeremy L. Sharp and Kristina L. Taylor were named associates.


HuntonBrady Architects of Orlando recently hired eight people to its staff. They include: Crystal Smith, office manager; Mario DeJesus, Edward Thomas, Dennis Cole, Charlie McNamara, Meltem Plotts and Ryan Chmielewski, all hired as graduate architects; and Butch Ellerby, construction administration.


Grant Meacci was named principal for the Asheville, N.C., office of Design Workshop. Grant joined the Asheville office in 2003 and has more than 14 years of landscape architectural experience.


WilsonMiller Vice President David S. Wilkison was named managing principal of the firm’s Fort Myers, Fla., office. He has assumed responsibility for the office’s daily operations throughout Lee County and adjacent inland and coastal areas.

He has more than 25 years of civil engineering experience.


Carl W. Shea has joined the Orlando office of architecture, planning and interior design firm VOA Associates as project manager.


Cutler Associates, a construction management and design-build firm with offices in Tampa, promoted Trevor Otlewski to project manager, and hired Mark Staffieri as a senior project manager. Otlewski has been with the firm for four years and has seven years of industry experience. Staffieri has 22 years of construction experience. He previously worked with W.G. Mills in Sarasota, Fla.


Inwood Consulting Engineers in Oviedo, Fla., promoted Mark Hales and David Graeber to the position of associate, and Kate Spiess and Steve Sommerfeldt to project manager.


Ronald G. Howard Jr. was promoted to assistant manager for the service and special projects division of Palmer Electric in Winter Park, Fla. Howard has been with the company for 10 years.


Rick Akram was named vice president of operations for Allied Steel Buildings of Fort Lauderdale. Akram will oversee the engineered steel building firm’s operational divisions, including new office locations in South Florida, Orlando, Las Vegas and Toronto.


Matthew Coe was promoted to director of operations for GLE Associates, a consulting firm based in Tampa. He previously worked as manager of building and environmental sciences.

Also, Matthew Smith was promoted to manager of building and environmental sciences. He previously served as a senior project manager.


Christopher Claps has joined D & A Building Services, a facility maintenance company, as Central Florida branch manager.
