Names In The News - November 2007

Doug Thigpen has joined the Weitz Co. of West Palm Beach, Fla., as construction manager of its Florida operations.Thigpen has more than 34 years of construction industry experience.He will be responsible for overseeing all items related to construction operations, including staff management and training, project plan development, cost and schedule analysis, owner and subcontractor negotiations and risk management, among others.


Andrew S. McPherson has been named president of Seretta Construction in Orlando. His father, Richard J. McPherson, former president and founder of the company, made the announcement in August. Andrew, a graduate of the University of Houston, will oversee the company’s operations in Florida and the Mid-Atlantic states.


Reynolds, Smith and Hills of Jacksonville, Fla., recently promoted three people to the position of vice president. James Hullett Jr. was promoted to vice president in the firm’s transportation and public infrastructure program. Hullett serves as office leader for RS&H’s Atlanta office.

Jamie Cochran was also named vice president in RS&H’s transportation and public infrastructure program. She serves as the firm’s Planning Service Group Leader. She rejoins RS&H after an eight-year hiatus from the firm.

Jack Haynes was also appointed vice president in the transportation and public infrastructure program. In this position, he will oversee bridge projects serviced by the firm’s Jacksonville, Tampa and Austin, Texas, offices.


Rustam G. Irani has joined Community Engineering Services in Fort Myers, Fla., as director of regional operations. He will oversee all business practices and be responsible for new business development and customer relations for offices in Fort Myers, Tampa and Orlando.

In its Longwood, Fla., office, CES hired James Moore as an instrument operator. He will operate and maintain GPS systems, total stations and data collectors used to collect field information and map the location of existing site improvements.

Also, the firm hired Meridith Ellis as a receptionist in its Longwood office.


H.J. High Construction Co. of Orlando recently announced numerous staff appointments.

Bryan Pickens and Steve Radcliffe were hired as project managers. Pickens is working on the Indian River Community College Treasure Coast Public Safety project in Fort Pierce, Fla. Radcliffe is assigned to the Deland High School Phase Four project in Deland, Fla.

Also, Gary Cassen, with 20 years of construction industry experience, was appointed estimator.

Rob Moursalien was named assistant controller in the company’s accounting department.

Finally, Leigh Byron, Terri Blow and Marlene Ruiz were hired as project assistants.


HNTB Corp. in Jacksonville, Fla., has hired Paul Hiers as the head of its transportation final design department. He will be responsible for the office’s transportation engineering capabilities, and managing transportation staff and projects.


David B. St. Pierre has joined Clancy & Theys Construction Co. in Orlando as project manager. St. Pierre has 13 years of commercial construction experience.


John Dowd has joined DooleyMack Constructors in Sarasota, Fla., as a project manager. He has more than 25 years of construction industry experience.


James C. Anderson has been named principal architect at MACTEC Engineering & Consulting of Atlanta. He will oversee all of the architectural duties for the Atlanta metro area.

Also in Atlanta, Roy E. Moore was named senior principal engineer, responsible for supervising a variety of regional projects.

Additionally, Eric A. Blomberg was named office manager of MACTEC’s Tallahassee, Fla., office. He has been with the Alpharetta, Ga.-based firm for 19 years.


Brian Johnson of Soil Consultants in Charleston, S.C., was elected president of the American Subcontractors Association of the Carolinas. The rest of the group’s newly elected slate of officers included the following:

Dani Blackwell of City Builders in Charlotte, was named first vice president. Tom Stokes, of Sanders Brothers Construction Co. in North Charleston, S.C., was named second vice president.

Phillip Evans, of Smith Kesler & Co. P.A. CPA, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., was appointed treasurer. Amanda Hedges, of D.H. Hankins Trucking in Mount Pleasant, was named assistant treasurer.

Tammy Warren, of TQM Roofing in Statesville, N.C., was named secretary.

Art Rouse of Binswanger Glass in Charlotte, was named honorary chairman of the board.

David Ravin is the new president of Charlotte-based real estate firm Croslands residential division. Ravin will lead the division and its continuing emphasis on luxury rental and for-sale infill housing.

The company also announced the promotion of eight associates.

Bill Anderson was promoted to senior vice president – contracting. Jim Anderson was named director of Raleigh, N.C., operations. Jamie Dunn was promoted to vice president of investments. Julianne Smith-Hamilton was promoted to vice president – marketing and technology.

Also, Chris Squier was promoted to the position of mixed-use project executive. Austin Williams was named vice president of Raleigh retail development. Chris Grenier was promoted to director of design and construction – retail. And Lonnie Willaby was promoted to director of Charlotte contracting.


Caitlin Sloop has joined the Asheville, N.C., office of Design Workshop as a landscape architect. She most recently worked as crew leader for William Laity Landscaping in Asheville.


Ronald Pedonti has joined HuntonBrady Architects in Orlando as director of interior design. He will lead the firm’s interior design group and corporate consulting services program.

Aggie Crews has joined BJAC in Raleigh, N.C., as project manager. She has more than 20 years of industry experience in programming, space planning and construction administration.


Kevin Thompson has joined Liberty Harbor as construction manager for the company’s $2 billion, 135-acre waterfront development in Brunswick, Ga. He will oversee operational and technical aspects of the development, which will include approximately 1,600 residences and 250 home sites, a 350-wet slip marina, a boardwalk and a yacht club.

Also, George E. Ward was named CEO of Liberty Harbor, and Andrew Bernard was named senior project manager for the development.


Newcomb & Boyd of Atlanta recently added two new mechanical engineers and four co-ops to its staff. Named as mechanical engineers were Daniel T. Schultz, a recent graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Lynda B. Herrig, who rejoins the firm and who holds bachelor’s and master degrees in mechanical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Also, Treston Vines, Mark Azarraga, Kai Chi Wong and Nathan Firesheets have joined the firm as co-ops.


Tod Heesch has joined the Winston-Salem, N.C., office of engineering consulting firm Stantec. Heesch comes to the firm from Triad Design Group in Greensboro, N.C., where he worked on structural design.


Renato Chuw has joined Inwood Consulting Engineers in Oviedo, Fla., as a senior engineer. Also, Seth Hardy has joined the firm as a graphics/multimedia designer.


Crowther Roofing & Sheet Metal of Florida in Fort Myers, Fla., hired three new sales representatives for the company’s RoofCheck program. Chuck Arcario is the sales and marketing representative for Lee County, while Mike Joyce will service Collier County. Christopher Rajala will service the company’s customers in Charlotte County.
