Earl L. Shell Jr., chairman and CEO of Atlanta-based Hardin Construction Co., announced his immediate retirement from the company. Shell had been with the company for 40 years, and served as its chief executive for the past 20.

Shell joined Hardin in 1967 and was named president in 1981. He became chairman and CEO in 1986.

Formerly the company’s majority shareholder, Shell has divested his ownership of Hardin. Two other principals, Brantley Barrow and Bill Pinto, are now the principal shareholders. Barrow, formerly vice chairman and chief financial officer, is the new chairman. Pinto, who’s been with Hardin for 33 years, will continue to serve as president.

“Hardin has been my life,” Shell said in a press statement. “Now I’m looking forward to the next phase of my life.”

Gene McGovern, formerly of Pavarini Construction Co., has joined Foram Group of Miami as managing director of development and construction, where he will oversee the developer’s largest and highest-profile “green” project, Brickell Financial Centre.

In his more than 25 years in the industry, McGovern has completed the construction of 10 million sq ft of commercial, corporate and residential properties in New York City, and has been at the helm of such projects as the Paradise Island Resort in the Bahamas, Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur Twin Towers, Euro Disney and the restoration of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

Lyle Blanden has assumed the position of CEO and chairman of J.O. DeLotto & Sons, a general-contracting firm based in Tampa. In his new role, the 35-year veteran of J.O. DeLotto will focus on long-range planning, financial oversight and business development.
Also, Craig Lamberson was named president, while Wayne Fernandez and Doug Littrell were each promoted to the position of executive vice president.

Additionally, the following promotions were announced: Darrin Thomson to director of preconstruction; Glenn McKenzie to vice president of business development; Chip Pepper to vice president; Sondie Goolsby to comptroller; and Jeff Doan to general superintendent/safety director.

Roger Jetton was named president of Briggs Construction Equipment, the Case dealership in the Southeast. Jetton joined the company in 2005 as chief operating officer and vice president of sales. Prior to joining Briggs, he served as vice president at Carter Machinery Co.


Woolbright Development of Boca Raton has added Jon Wainwright, vice president development; Bill Griffin, senior project manager; and Tim Fields, assistant property manager.

Wainwright has more than 25 years of construction experience and was previously senior vice president of construction and development with Rendina Cos. in Palm Beach Gardens.
Prior to joining Woolbright, Griffin was vice president of construction and development services with The Soleil Group in Cary, N.C. Fields was previously a field superintendent with Southern Drywall and Construction in Tamarac, Fla., where he was responsible for interior and exterior metal framing on commercial construction projects.


Bob Alderman has been named officer-in-charge of HNTB’s Jacksonville office. He previously served as the head of HNTB’s transportation practice in Jacksonville and has more than 17 years of experience with all types of infrastructure improvement projects.

In addition to serving as office leader and project manager, he will assist HNTB Federal Services with projects at Naval Air Station Jacksonville.

Michael Bauman of the Miami-Dade County Public Works Department has been elected chairman of the board of directors for the Transportation & Expressway Authority Membership of Florida (TEAMFL). He will serve as chairman until October 2008.


Patrick Griswold has joined Warren and Associates Design-Build LLC of Greenville, S.C., as director of construction operations. He has 18 years of related experience, including 10 years with Suitt Construction Co., also of Greenville.


Gates McVey, a builder and developer based in Naples, Fla., announced that John A. Hayes has been named president and CEO of Gates McVey Builders and president of Gates McVey Butz Institutional Construction. Also, John Flavin was named president and CEO of Gates McVey Capital Group.

Also, Alanna Gluhm has joined the company as director of marketing.

Warren L. Williams was promoted to principal within Atlanta-based Lord, Aeck & Sargent’s science studio.


Phil Ireland was promoted to assistant vice president/paving products division manager for Ring Power in St. Augustine, Fla. Prior to his promotion, Ireland was sales manager for the division. Ireland brings 25 years of paving knowledge to his new position.

Ring Power is the Central and Northeast Florida Caterpillar dealer.

Robert M. Thompson has been named director of construction for real estate development company Paramount Worldwide in Boca Raton, the luxury brand of the RPC Holdings real estate portfolio. Thompson joined Paramount in 2006 as construction executive for Paramount Beach, the luxury high-rise condominium project in Sunny Isles Beach, Fla. Prior to joining Paramount, Thompson spent 10 years as chief operating officer and president at Alcon Associates.


Michael J. Ritus was named director of operations for the Miami office of A/E firm Leo A. Daly. Ritus will manage the day-to-day operations of a staff of 40. He has more than 30 years of experience as an architect, facilities manager and senior project manager.


Jason Seubert was promoted to vice president with Garney Construction in Orlando. The Kansas City, Mo.-based company’s Orlando office constructs water and wastewater pipelinesandtreatment facilities throughout the state of Florida. Seubert has been with Garney since his graduation from Central Missouri State University in 1994.


HuntonBrady Architects of Orlando announced some senior staff promotions.
Danny Gordon was promoted to associate Principal.  He has more than 13 years of experience designing and master planning commercial, educational and medical office buildings.

Thomas Hagood, Drew Krecicki and Karen Moorefield were promoted to associate. Hagood has over 12 years of experience in education, commercial and municipal projects. Krecicki has 24 years of experience in educational and health-care projects. A director of corporate development for the firm, Moorefield has more than 18 years of project administration, marketing, human resources and business development experience. She leads the firm’s marketing efforts.

Mark Woehrle was promoted to vice president of operations at Shaw Mechanical Services in Orlando. Woehrle, a construction professional with 20 years of experience, has served as the company’s manager of new construction since 2003. He is now responsible for overseeing operations of the service and new construction divisions.


Patricia LaMantia has joined Community Engineering Services as marketing director in the Fort Myers office. She has five years of marketing experience, most recently as a Fort Myers construction company marketing director.


Walter P. Moore, an engineering and consulting firm, announced that Webb Wright was promoted to senior associate in its Orlando office. In the firm’s Tampa office, Scott Martin, Rob Mohrland and Jose Versace were named associates.


Lawrence F. Lee, III, a senior surveyor with Dewberry in Raleigh, N.C., was promoted to chief of surveys. Lee has more than 30 years of experience supervising field and performing boundary and related land surveying services.

Also, George Getty, a professional land surveyor in the Raleigh office, was named assistant chief of surveys. Steven Harvey, a civil engineer with Dewberry’s Raleigh office, was promoted to associate.

Ardaman & Associates of Orlando has promoted Zan C. Bates to chief geotechnical engineer of transportation and Colin T. Jewsbury to chief geotechnical engineer of the Orlando branch. Bates has been with the firm for 15 years, while Jewsbury has worked for Ardaman for the past seven.


David Pabor has joined Mathews Construction of Tampa as project manager. Pabor has 14 years of construction experience.

Also, Ken Hoff was hired as the company’s IT manager. Hoff has 20 years of information systems management experience.

David Smith has joined Miller Legg as a regional service manager of surveying in the consulting firm’s West Palm Beach office.


Jerry Robinson was promoted to executive vice president and branch manager for MIL-CON Electric Co. in Merritt Island, Fla.


Jon Weber was named director of the West Palm Beach office of Calvin, Giordano & Associates, a civil engineering firm based in Fort Lauderdale.


Roger Jeffery of Orlando was honored with the “Lifetime Achievement in Engineering Award” at the 2007 Central Florida Engineers Week Banquet. The award is presented annually to the engineer who has shown outstanding leadership and commitment to excellence.

A professional engineer, Roger is director of the structural division of Orlando-based TLC Engineering for Architecture.

Reynolds, Smith & Hills has hired three new civil engineers in its transportation/public infrastructure program. In Tampa, highway designers Prashant Singh and Sunil Jakhadi will support senior project managers. Idaliz Dial will serve in a similar position from the firm’s Sarasota, Fla., office.

Also, RS&H has promoted senior project manager Drew Roark to lead its Tallahassee, Fla., office, within the transportation/public infrastructure program.

Vince Briones has joined TLC Engineering for Architecture in Orlando as manager of LEED services. One of the founding partners of Green Time, Briones has extensive experience in sustainable engineering services.


Tim Barker has taken the reins of the Atlanta office of MARCOR Remediation, an environmental services contractor.

Before coming to MARCOR Remediation, Barker served as a consultant to the environmental dismantlement and demolition industries, with an emphasis on radiological waste reduction.  He was founder and president of AMC Demolition Specialists in Atlanta.

David S. Rivera brings 28 years of experience to his new position as the head of transportation services at WilsonMiller in Naples, Fla. He will oversee traffic planning and engineering services for private- and public-sector infrastructure projects.


Ronald Harmon has joined Andrew General Contractors of Orlando as a project manager. Harmon has 35 years of development experience.

Also, Scott Donnarumma has joined the company as an assistant superintendent. He has more than 20 years of construction experience, and most recently worked for The Tishman Co. in New York.

Crocker Partners, a Boca Raton-based private equity real estate firm, has promoted Tyson Macomber and Hamid Tabb to the post of assistant vice president. Macomber will oversee the firm’s North Florida development and acquisitions program, including Tampa, Orlando and Jacksonville. Tabib will be responsible for sourcing South Florida development and acquisitions opportunities.


Christy Pain has joined Faithful+Gould in Orlando as corporate communications manager.


Mary Baker was named human resources director for Orlando-based Tri-City Electrical Contractors. She has more than 20 years of related experience.


Patrick Griffin has joined AIM Engineering & Surveying as a senior environmental scientist. He will be based in the company’s project development and environment unit in Tampa.

Additionally, Sim Jones has joined AIM’s Bartow, Fla., office as a senior utilities inspector/associate contract support specialist. He joins the company after a 35-year career with the Florida Department of Transportation.
