Dr. G. Wayne Clough, P.E.,
Georgia Institute of Technology president, was recently honored
with the American Society of Civil
Engineers' 2004 Outstanding Projects and Leaders (OPAL)
award for his lifetime contributions in education.
"Throughout his career, Wayne has contributed greatly
to the education of civil engineering students," said
ASCE President Patricia D. Galloway. "His teaching, research,
administrative and professional leadership has touched an
astounding number of people."
Clough began his career 40 years ago as an assistant professor
at Duke University. After positions at Stanford University,
Virginia Polytechnic and State University and the University
of Washington, Clough was named Georgia Tech's 10th president
in September 1994. During his tenure, test scores and retention
rates have increased dramatically, and Georgia Tech has been
ranked in the top ten of U.S.
News and World Report's top public universities list
since 1999, and was honored in 1999 with the Hesburgh Award,
the nation's top tribute for support of undergraduate teaching
and learning.
Clough has reshaped the
campus over the past 10 years with $1 billion in new facilities,
which have added over 5.2 million sq. ft. in new space.
The OPAL awards honor outstanding projects and professional
civil engineers for lifelong contributions in five categories
- public works, construction, management, design and education.
The Integral Group of Atlanta
has named presidents and chief operating officers for two
of its subsidiaries. Vicki Lundy Wilbon
has been promoted to president and COO of the firm's urban
development division. Wilbon's new responsibilities include
overseeing the division's large-scale projects. Carl
Powell has been hired as president and chief operating
officer of The Integral Group's commercial real estate division.
Powell's role includes directing the division's investments
as well as its retail, commercial and mixed-use development
endeavors.
Larry Atkins has been promoted
to executive vice president and director of operations for
Bovis Lend Lease Americas. Atkins,
who most recently served as principal-in-charge of the Charlotte
and Raleigh, N.C., offices of Bovis Lend Lease, will now be
responsible for company offices in Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh,
Miami, Orlando, Dallas and Nashville.
Harold Higgenbotham has been
named vice president for O'Donnell,
Naccarato, Mignogna & Jackson's Orlando office.
Higgenbotham, with 10 years of structural engineering experience,
will be overseeing projects in commercial design, high-rise
buildings, industrial projects and multi-family residential
development.
Greenberg Farrow Architecture
of Atlanta has named Jon Arendt
and Bryan O'Bra as network engineers
for the firm's information systems staff. Also, Christine
Del Pozzo has also joined the Atlanta office as a due
diligence coordinator.
Jim Klecker has been named
senior project director for The Related
Group of Florida. He will be in charge of construction
management and responsible for the overall performance of
several of Related's condominium projects, including Ocean
IV in Sunny Isles Beach and Las Olas Beach Club in Fort Lauderdale.
Klecker has over 25 years of construction experience and
most recently was project manager for WCI's 31-story BellaMaré
high-rise project in Aventura.
Brian W. Brown has been named
preconstruction manager for Miller
Construction Co. of Fort Lauderdale. He has more than
two decades of experience in commercial, residential and light
industrial construction.
Bob Renaud has been promoted
to director of business development and public affairs for
The Haskell Co. of Jacksonville.
In his new position, Renaud will be the company spokesman
and director of business development for Haskell's general
commercial division. Previously, he was the manager of business
development for the general commercial division and manager
of public affairs.
Debra A. Lupton, AIA, has
assumed the role of chief executive officer at TLC
Engineering for Architecture in Orlando. Lupton succeeds
John Douglas Benz, AIA, who
remains chairman of the board. The management change comes
after a two-year transition, during which time Lupton served
as vice president. Prior to that, she was TLC's director of
marketing for 10 years.
Luis M. Vargas has been named
HDR's South Florida bridge program
manager in the firm's Miami Lakes office. Vargas will be in
charge of the South Florida structures group and will provide
support to HDR's complex and segmental bridge technology group.
Prior to joining HDR, he was a vice president at Beiswenger
Hoch and Associates. He has more than 20 years of experience
in the planning, design, construction, rehabilitation and
condition evaluation of bridges. HDR also promoted Rohan
Hameed to project manager. He previously served as
a senior transportation engineer.
Tracy Robb has joined the West
Palm Beach office of Calvin, Giordano
& Associates as director of engineering. Robb,
formerly with the Northern Palm Beach County Improvement District,
brings 17 years of public- and private-sector engineering
to her position.
Bob Mulligan has been named
a senior project manager for specialty glazing contractor
Harmon Inc.'s Orlando office.
Mulligan brings 34 years of experience in project management,
sales and estimating for the glazing industry.
Frank T. Martin has joined
PBS&J's national transit services division as a
vice president/senior project director. He will be based in
the firm's Tallahassee, Fla., office. Most recently he was
the chief operating officer for the Santa Clara Valley Transportation
Authority in San Jose, Calif.
Leonard W. Martling was recently
elected to the board of managers for The
Weitz Co., a national building contractor with offices
in West Palm Beach. Martling has been president of Weitz's
Florida division since 1998. The company also announced the
hiring of Dennis Gallagher to
director of health-care services. During a 22-year career,
Gallagher has managed the construction of nearly $1.5 billion
of health care construction.
Mike Colvin has been named
senior vice president of The Facility
Group. The Smyrna, Ga.-based firm has regional and
international offices that provide turnkey services in design
and construction. Prior to joining the group, Colvin was with
Settles Aero Systems, where he was the president and executive
vice president of sales and engineering. Before that, he worked
with Kellogg, Brown & Root, serving as vice president
of business development.
Timothy Behler was recently
promoted to vice president of operations at Encore
Construction Co. of Winter Garden, Fla. In his new
role he will manage the company's equipment and safety programs,
in addition to assisting with overall project management.
The company also announced that George
Burns and Bill Hibbits
were hired as project superintendents and Scott
Reuter was named project manager. Also, Kenia
Harrell has joined Encore as safety coordinator.
Richard Lovelace has joined
The Stellar Group of Jacksonville,
Fla., as vice president of the commercial construction division.
Additionally, Jean-Marc Marchand
was promoted to design project manager for the power and utilities
division and Priscilla Ingram
was named controller.
Raymond Laport has joined STT
Construction Group of Jacksonville to lead the company's
utility, specialized trenching and environmental divisions.
Laport has 22 years of experience in civil and environmental
engineering, construction and environmental remediation.
Reece C. Porter was recently
named international business consultant of Orlando-based Mechanical
Services Inc.
