Robert E. Barnhill III was promoted to president of Barnhill Contracting Co. of Tarboro, N.C. He is the grandson of company founder, Robert E. Barnhill, Sr.

Robert E. Barnhill Jr. will move into the position of chief executive officer and chairman of the board.
Barnhill III is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he received a bachelor’s degree in economics. He joined Barnhill Contracting Co. in 1998, working with the Raleigh division. He was promoted to vice president of the division in 2003, senior vice president in 2006 and most recently worked as regional president of the company.
PARTINGTON
The company also named James B. “Skip” Partington IV vice president of the southeast division in Fayetteville, N.C. Partington most recently served as area manager in the northeast division in Kitty Hawk, N.C.
The company also promoted Will Pierce to the position of controller, in Tarboro. He holds a master’s degree in accounting from East Carolina University. He has been with Barnhill since 2004.
Also, the company promoted Gail Suson to director of preconstruction services and Christopher T. White to director of business development for the building division in Raleigh, N.C.

Suson has worked as a preconstruction manager for Barnhill since 2006. He has more than 17 years of construction experience.
White has been with Barnhill since 2004, and most recently worked as a project manager. He has more than 23 years of construction experience.
Leonard W. Martling was named president and chief executive officer of the Weitz Co. of West Palm Beach, Fla.
Martling has more than 35 years experience, including the last 29 years at Weitz. While at Weitz, he has held the position of project engineer, superintendent, project manager, construction manager, business unit president, and most recently chief operating officer for the last six years. He served as president of the Florida business unit from 1998-2004.

Gary Newell was named chapter president of the Georgia Branch of Associated General Contractors in Atlanta. Newell is president of Collins & Co., a general contractor and construction management firm headquartered in Smyrna.
Other officers for 2010-11 include: vice president—Tony Pellicano of Pellicano Construction, Albany; treasurer—Ken Swofford of Swofford Construction, Austell; and secretary—Dave Cyr of Parrish Construction Group, Perry.
George W. McGonagill was named vice president and area manager for Kraft Construction Co.’s office in Sarasota, Fla. He will lead all company operations in Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte counties. He most recently served as executive director of the construction services department for the School Board of Sarasota County.
Mike Surasky has joined the Raleigh, N.C., office of HDR as a senior transportation project manager. He will lead HDR’s traffic group and support transportation planning group efforts in the Carolinas.
Teresa Crisp has joined the Atlanta office of professional services firm Dewberry as an associate. She will be responsible for expanding the firm’s water and wastewater services in the state of Georgia. She has 15 years of industry experience.
Raul Mastrapa joined engineering firm Ross & Baruzzini of Miami as assistant director of mechanical engineering. Mastrapa will provide project management for the mechanical engineering group.
Moss & Associates of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., named Vice President of Operations Mike Mazza to head business development of its criminal justice division, building correctional facilities across the United States.
Mazza works from the company’s offices in Ocala, Fla.
Mitch Stephens was elected the 2010-2011 president of the Georgia Utility Contractors Association of Forest Park, Ga. He is the owner of John D. Stephens Inc.
Other officers for the coming year include: first vice president—Charlie Murren of C.A. Murren & Sons Co.; second vice president—Angela Lance of Peed Bros.; treasurer—Regina Shelnutt of Robert M. Anderson Inc.; and secretary—Mark Gravel of Willow Construction.
