C. Howard Nye has become CEO of Martin Marietta Materials in Raleigh, N.C. Nye joined Martin Marietta as president and chief operating officer in 2006 with more than 20 years of experience in the construction materials industry.
Stephen P. Zelnak Jr., former CEO of Martin Marietta Materials, will retire mid-year. Zelnak, who had been with the company for more than 27 years, has been elected to the company’s board of directors. He will continue as executive chairman of the board until his retirement, and then become non-executive chairman of the board.
The St. Joe Co. of Jacksonville, one of Florida’s largest real estate development companies, recently promoted the following individuals: Reece Alford to senior vice president, corporate counsel and secretary; Ken Borick to senior vice president, real estate counsel; David Childers to vice president – finance and corporate treasurer; and Janna Connolly as senior vice president and chief accounting officer.
Alford, who came to St. Joe in 2005, will be responsible for corporate-level legal matters including securities, compliance, corporate governance, intellectual property and strategic transactions.
Borick, who joined St. Joe in 2000, will assume additional responsibilities related to the firm’s residential and commercial real estate transactions.
As vice president – finance and corporate treasurer, Childers will be responsible for the management of St. Joe’s capital structure, credit profile and investor relations strategies.
As senior vice president and chief accounting officer, Connolly will continue to oversee all accounting, tax and financial reporting, and will now assume responsibility for the budgeting, forecasting and planning functions.
Ben Searight was elected vice president of RS&H Construction Services of Jacksonville, Fla. Searight started with RS&H CS in June 2000 after graduating from Penn State University.
Ken McDonald was named senior engineering manager at Parsons Brinckerhoff in Atlanta. He will serve as a program manager, responsible for overseeing major transit projects throughout the U.S.
McDonald has more than 25 years of experience in the transit industry. Prior to joining PB, he served as chief operating officer for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.
In Morrisville, N.C., PB hired Mark Kuttrus as senior aviation planner. With more than 20 years of industry experience, Kuttrus will be responsible for aviation planning work.
Kevin M. Hoeflich was named national business sector manager for tolls in PBS&J’s Orlando office. Hoeflich has more than 20 years of experience specializing in project management and design- and construction management of transportation and toll-related projects.
Also in Orlando, Christopher J. Lory was named program director for PBS&J’s general consultant contract with Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise. He has 21 years of highway design and project management experience involving transportation projects.
PBS&J also promoted Matthew T. Lamb to senior program manager for the FTE general consultant contract. He has 15 years of experience in transportation design projects.
In Panama City, Fla., PBS&J named Larry F. Kelley to the position of project director. Kelley spent 36 years with the Florida Dept. of Transportation, and most recently served as District Three secretary in Chipley.
Bob Ferguson has joined general contractor T.A. Loving Co. in Goldsboro, N.C., as vice president. Ferguson has more than 35 years of construction management experience and will oversee the project management, marketing and daily operations for T.A. Loving’s new office in Morrisville, N.C.
Michael Heron is the new regional manager for Collins Engineers in Orlando. Heron previously served as the firm’s senior transportation manager. He has15 years of project management and engineering experience.
Hennessy Construction Services of St. Petersburg, Fla., promoted Mark Stalker to vice president. Stalker has been in the construction industry in the Tampa Bay area for more than 29 years. He previously worked as project executive with Hennessy.
WilsonMiller of Naples, Fla., promoted Ted Aiken to regional business unit manager for the firm’s transportation planning and design division for Northwest Florida. He has 13 years of engineering experience.
The firm also promoted John P. Maloney to regional business unit manager for surveying for lower Southwest Florida. He has 28 years of surveying and mapping experience.
Michael Mick has joined Naples, Fla.-based builder GATES as a project manager. He has more than 31 years of construction industry experience.
Bill Caldwell was named president of Spartanburg, S.C.-based Waldrop Inc. At the same time, company founder and owner Benny Waldrop becomes chairman of the firm. Waldrop Inc. is the holding company for Waldrop Mechanical Services and Waldrop Heating & Air Conditioning.
Caldwell has served as Waldrop’s vice president of operations since 2004. He is a 33-year veteran of the construction industry.
Luis Riobueno has joined Raleigh, N.C.-based design firm BJAC as a designer. Riobueno has 25 years of architectural design experience.
Barbara Dokulil has joined BJAC as an interior designer. She has more than 15 years of interior design experience.
The firm promoted Rebecca Edmunds, former director of marketing, to the position of communications director. Also, Nancy A. Padgett was named marketing director.

SIKON Construction Co. of Deerfield Beach, Fla., recently named Jonathan E. Jordan as vice president. Jordan has more than 30 years of commercial construction experience and formerly served as project director for Jacobs Engineering in Atlanta.
