Suffolk Construction Expanding Into Orlando
Suffolk Construction of West Palm Beach, Fla., is forging ahead with an expansion into the Orlando market. The company named former Winter Park commissioner Douglas Storer as its director of business development and government affairs for this office.
“Despite the obvious downturn in the economy, there are still business opportunities out there – especially in the greater Orlando area, which has built an enviable business infrastructure poised for growth,” said Rex Kirby, president and general manager of Suffolk Construction’s Florida division.
Storer most recently served as director of strategic alliances for Home Depot Supply. Earlier, he was director of business development for the Jacksonville, Fla.-based Haskell Co.
PBSJ Foundation Announces Grant Recipients
The PBSJ Corp. based in Tampa, announced the award of grants totaling more than $115,000. Grants will be administered through The PBSJ Foundation, the company’s charitable foundation. The foundation considers funding requests submitted by employees of the corporation’s subsidiaries, which include PBS&J, PBS&J Constructors, Peter R. Brown Construction and PBS&J International.
Grants for the following programs in the four-state area were recently approved. Florida APWA Scholarship Program; American Public Works Association, Central Florida Branch; Florida MATHCOUNTS; Florida Engineering Foundation; Take Stock in Children; Flagler County Education Foundation; Flagler County, Fla.; Youth Support at the Normandy Community Center; Community Connections of Jacksonville; Duval County, Fla.; Creation of a high tech science lab for Woodville Elementary School; Leon County Schools; Leon County, Fla; Engineering for All at Orange Park High School; School District of Clay County, Fla.; NOMA Orlando Scholarships, National Organization of Minority Architects, Orlando Chapter, Fla.; The PBSJ Merit To Scholarship; Broward Black Elected Officials, Broward County, Fla.; Math and Science through the Arts; Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Broward County, Fla.
