PBSJ Corp. Acquires Peter R. Brown Construction of Clearwater
The PBSJ Corp. of Tampa, parent company of the engineering, architecture, and sciences company PBS&J, PBS&J Constructors, and PBS&J International, announced an agreement for the acquisition of Clearwater, Fla.-based Peter R. Brown Construction. The newly acquired company will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of the corporation.
Founded in 1963 by Peter R. Brown, Peter Brown Construction has 150 employees located in offices located in Clearwater, Destin and Tallahassee, Fla., and in Warner Robbins, Ga. The company’s three current owners were Judy Mitchell, John Stewart and Eduardo “Tito” Vargas.
The company provides comprehensive construction management and design-build services.
“This is a very strategic move by both Peter Brown Construction and PBSJ to enhance our position in the marketplace and to better serve both our clients and our employees,” states John B. Zumwalt III, chairman and CEO of PBSJ.
Peter Brown President Judy Mitchell stated: “This is a good fit for both companies. Our services complement each other nicely. We are excited about the ability we now have to grow our company in the national arena and the opportunities it affords our employees to grow professionally.”
Effective immediately, PBSJ will pursue and carry out all new construction management-at-risk projects through Peter Brown Construction. According to Zumwalt, the goal will be to integrate over time the best of Peter Brown Construction’s and PBS&J Constructors’ cultures and practices. Mitchell will remain president of Peter Brown Construction. Partners Stewart and Vargas will continue to serve as executive vice presidents.
Wayne Brothers Recognized for Safety by ASCC
The American Society for Concrete Contractors awarded Wayne Brothers of Kannapolis, N.C., with its Safety Award for safety improvement during the society’s annual convention.
To date, Wayne Brothers has worked in excess of 350,000 man hours with no lost-time accidents.
Hardin Construction Donates $125,000 in Items to Central Florida Zoo
Atlanta-based Hardin Construction Co. recently donated items valued at roughly $125,000 to the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens in Sanford, Fla.
Hardin’s Orlando office donated kiosks and trash receptacles to the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill.
“We are proud to support the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens and their mission to provide environmental and conservation education for both children and adults in Central Florida,” stated Steve Rivers, a senior vice president with Hardin Construction in Orlando.
