SchenkelShultz Recognized for United Cerebral Palsy Facility

Orlando-based SchenkelShultz Architecture received the 2008 United Cerebral Palsy Universal Accessibility Design Award for its design of UCP’s Holloway Center. The architecture firm received the award at the organization’s recent Annual Awards for Excellence Dinner in Washington, D.C. Daniel M. Tarczynski, a partner and designer with the firm, accepted the national award on behalf of SchenkelShultz.

“At SchenkelShultz, we believe in designing special needs facilities that inspire, exceed accessibility requirements and produce a welcoming environment,” Tarcynski said in a press statement. SchenkelShultz has completed pro bono work for UCP’s Holloway Center and UCP Pine Hills facilities and is currently designing a UCP Research Park facility, all in Central Florida.

Moss & Associates Recognized for Project Safety

Moss & Associates of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has received the Florida Sunshine State Safety Recognition Award for its workplace safety programs at the $237 million Ivy and Mint residential/mixed-use developments project. The towers share the same site along the Miami River in downtown Miami.

“Keeping a complex jobsite safe takes education and daily focus from every employee and subcontractor on the project,” Joe Harris, executive vice president with Moss & Associates, said in a press statement. The construction manager is building the adjacent riverfront towers for Key International Development.

The University of South Florida's Safety Consultation Program presents this award to companies that demonstrate effective safety and health management systems in the field, as well as on paper, and continuously strive to improve their efforts.

Mint is a 52-story, 1.3 million-sq-ft residential/commercial tower on the Miami River. It includes 530 residential units, six commercial units and a nine-floor parking garage. Completion is scheduled for May 2009.

The Ivy is a 1.1 million-sq-ft residential/mixed-use development with condominiums, spa, garage and restaurants.
