Hoar Construction Named #5 Best Place to Work

Birmingham, Ala.-based Hoar Construction, with offices in Orlando, placed fifth on the list of the “50 Best Small and Medium Companies to Work for in America.”The list was announced at the Society for Human Resource Management's 60th Annual Conference and Exposition in Chicago.

This annual list ranks the top 25 small- and medium-sized companies in America that use smart people management strategies to develop productive and satisfied workforces. The organizations were selected and ranked by the Great Place to Work Institute.

The results were based on a randomly distributed employee opinion survey. Each company evaluated was given a score based on employees' responses to a detailed questionnaire about the organizations' workplace cultures.

“We are extremely honored to be recognized by our employees, by the Society for Human Resource Management, and the Great Place to Work Institute as one of the best places to work in America,” Rob Burton, president of Hoar Construction, said in a press statement. “We work very hard to hire the best people, to train them to be the best in the industry, and to provide avenues for them to excel. This recognition is a tribute to our employees.”

The Great Place to Work Institute uses its employee survey and assessment process to select the companies appearing on the annual "Best Small & Medium Companies to Work For in America" list and FORTUNE's “100 Best Companies to Work For” list.

Stiles Donates $70,000 to Habitat for Humanity

Stiles Corp. of Florida announced it is donating $70,000 to create a Habitat for Humanity home in Dania Beach - one of eight to be built at the site in coming months by Habitat Broward’s “Women Building a Legacy” program.

The “Women Building a Legacy” program is designed to empower mothers and women of all ages to work together to address the issue of substandard housing.

In addition to the firm’s financial contribution, many employees from Stiles Corp.’s staff will volunteer to help build the home. Staff from Stiles Construction Co. will supervise the volunteers’ work. Construction will start in September and is expected to take approximately eight months to complete.

Suffolk Construction Raises $80K for Wounded Vets, Foster Youth

Suffolk Construction of West Palm Beach, Fla., raised $80,000 during its 2nd Annual Suffolk Construction Charitable Golf Tournament at the President County Club in West Palm Beach. The event supported the Achilles FREEDOM TEAM of Wounded Veterans and Turtle Nest Village, with each organization receiving $40,000.

The Achilles FREEDOM TEAM of Wounded Veterans introduces disabled soldiers from the war in Iraq and Afghanistan to the sport of running.The program provides motivation, training and the opportunity to rebuild strength and endurance.

Turtle Nest Village provides emancipated foster youth with a place to live, education, work readiness, job placement, life skills' training, health care, counseling and mentoring.

Gold-level sponsors of the event included Baker Concrete Construction, Coastal Masonry, Enclos Corp., Formworks, M&P Reynolds Enterprises, Meisner Electric and M.C. Velar Construction.

Shaw Mechanical Launches Two New Divisions

Shaw Mechanical Services of Orlando has formed two new divisions: residential and special projects. The $11 million contractor anticipates nearly $1 million in gross sales from the new residential division in the first twelve months of business.

The special projects division is set-up for owners of existing commercial buildings in need of renovations, remodels and retrofits.
