EMCOR Acquires Orlando-based MSI
EMCOR Group announced it has acquired Mechanical Services of Central Florida (MSI), a mechanical mobile services company headquartered in Orlando.
MSI employs approximately 350 technical and service personnel working in the central and southwestern Florida regions. The firm’s mechanical services include building operations and maintenance services as well as HVAC and plumbing construction and retrofit services. The current year’s revenues are expected to be approximately $48 million.
Officials with EMCOR cited MSI’s experience in the health care, university, entertainment, data center and other commercial markets.
“Expanding our service presence in central Florida, including growing markets such as Orlando and Tampa, is a natural extension of our strategy to be the dominant nationwide provider of mechanical mobile services,” Michael P. Bordes, president of EMCOR Mechanical Mobile Services, added in a press statement.
Alberici Acquires Atlanta Firm for Water Projects
Alberici Constructors of St. Louis, Mo., announced the acquisition of WWPS, an Atlanta-based construction firm specializing in water and wastewater facilities. The newly combined firms will continue to focus on water and wastewater facilities in the Atlanta area and the Southeastern United States.
WWPS was founded by Keith and Lisa Willis in 1997. Keith Willis will join Alberici as general manager of the Southeast region. Lisa Willis will continue as president and majority owner of Willis Professional Services, a certified woman-owned business enterprise.
“The acquisition of WWPS is consistent with our long-term strategy to grow our heavy public infrastructure business in the Southeast,” Greg Kozicz, CEO and president of Alberici, said in a press statement.
Martin Marietta Materials Acquires Georgia, Tennessee Aggregate Operations
Raleigh, N.C.-based Martin Marietta Materials announced it has acquired six quarry locations in Georgia and Tennessee from Vulcan Materials Co. According to Martin Marietta, the transaction was completed as part of the Department of Justice’s consent order requiring Vulcan to divest of certain facilities following its acquisition of Florida Rock Industries.
Of the six locations acquired by Martin Marietta Materials, the five Georgia sites comprise three active and one greenfield granite operation located near Atlanta in Paulding, Fayette, Fulton and Butts counties, as well as a limestone operation in Floyd County near Rome. The sixth location is a limestone operation in Chattanooga, Tenn.
In 2007, the newly acquired locations shipped nearly 4.5 million tons of aggregates. Aggregate reserves exceed 300 million tons.
CH2M Hill Earns North Carolina Safety Award
CH2M Hill of Spartanburg, S.C., an engineering, procurement, construction and operations firm, has earned the North Carolina Department of Labor’s Building STAR award for its work on the DSM Dyneema project in Greenville, N.C. The award is part of a statewide program to recognize organizations in the construction industry that implement strong safety management programs.
DSM is an international company that creates products and services in the life sciences and materials sciences fields. The Greenville location is home to two of DSM’s business groups, DSM Pharmaceutical Products and DSM Dyneema. Currently, the site employs over 1,200 employees. CH2M Hill has completed a series of projects at its Greenville site.
After the CH2M Hill and DSM Dyneema project teams had been working together for nearly a year to demonstrate their commitment to safety, the process culminated with a four-day audit by the North Carolina Department of Labor.
“There has been a lot of work in getting the site in the condition it is in and it is one of the best sites I have ever seen,” says S.B. White of the Occupational Safety and Health of North Carolina.
Hardin Construction Opens Office in Raleigh, N.C.
Atlanta-based Hardin Construction Co. has opened new offices in Raleigh, N.C., and Austin, Texas.
“Raleigh and Austin offer excellent opportunities for expanding the company’s geographic reach,” Hardin President Bill Pinto said in a press statement. Pinto added that the company sees both markets as having “strong growth potential.”
The company noted that both cities are state capitals with strong government, higher education, office, retail and hospitality market sectors.
Both offices were scheduled to be fully operational in April.
