Vulcan, Florida Rock Finalize Merger

Vulcan Materials Co. of Birmingham, Ala., announced it had received clearance from the U.S. Department of Justice to finalize its acquisition of Florida Rock Industries of Jacksonville, Fla. The closing was to have taken place in November. As a condition of an agreement with the Dept. of Justice, Vulcan will be required to divest itself of certain operations in Tennessee, Georgia and Virginia.

Suffolk Raises over $25,000 for Turtle Nest Village

Suffolk Construction Co. of West Palm Beach held a charity golf event at the President Country Club recently, helping to raise more than $25,000 to support Turtle Nest Village’s efforts to help former foster youths. During the event, the company also unveiled its new “Building Futures” program, designed to help foster youths at TNV gain work skills necessary for the construction industry.

Turtle Nest Village, in Palm Beach County, seeks to provide emancipated youths (age 18 or older) with a place to live, education, work placement, life skills training, health care and counseling.

Pirtle Construction Relocates to New Green Headquarters

Pirtle Construction Co. is relocating its corporate offices to a new class-A office building on Griffin Road in Davie, Florida. In addition to being the owner and construction manager for this project, Pirtle is also serving as the LEED consultant and delivering the structure as the first green office building in Davie. The company has registered the building for Silver LEED certification. The company is planning to occupy the building in early 2008.

GUCA Presents Scholarships

The Circle Group of Atlanta held its annual charitable golf tournament at Bears Best in Suwanee, Ga., helping to raise more than $20,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Each year The Circle Group raises money for this charity to help grant the wishes of two or three children affected by incurable diseases.

H&E Equipment Becomes Link-Belt Dealer

LBX Co. of Lexington, Ky., named H&E Equipment Services as an authorized dealer of Link-Belt Excavators in the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland and Virginia. The company will have North Carolina branch offices in Arden, Charlotte and Winston-Salem, and South Carolina locations in North Charleston, Columbia and Greenville.
