Keller Group Acquires H.J. Foundation
Keller Group plc, a London-based ground engineering specialist with North American headquarters in Odenton, Md., announced it has purchased the business and assets of HJ Foundation of Miami.
HJ Foundation, established in 1988, is a deep foundation contractor working in the South Florida market. The company reported revenues of $92 million in 2006. It specializes in continuous flight auger piles, the most popular deep foundation system for commercial applications in Florida.
HJ Foundation will continue to operate under current management personnel as a stand-alone business, similar to Keller’s other U.S. foundation businesses including Hayward Baker, Case Foundation Co., McKinney Drilling and Anderson Drilling.
Skanska Launches Small/Special Projects Division
Skanska USA Building announced the launch of its Small/Special Projects Division, a new area of construction concentration for the Florida region of Skanska and exclusive to the Orlando/Central Florida office. The division will initially service the Orlando/Central Florida market with future plans to expand throughout the state.
The division was created to address the need for construction of projects with a cost of less than $10 million.These projects will include smaller full-scale buildings, interior build outs and facility renovations, along with other specialty projects. Steven Grice, a project executive with Skanska, will lead the local division.
Grice has 24 years of experience as a construction manager, specifically with smaller renovation projects.
Three Contractors Combine to Raise $75,000 for United Way
Skanska USA Building, Brasfield & Gorrie and Hardin Construction Co., all with offices in Orlando, recently sponsored their “Contractors Third Annual Golf Tournament,” benefiting the Heart of Florida United Way.
Roughly 140 contractors and vendors attended and participated in the charity golf event, which was held at the Legacy Club at Alaqua Lakes in Longwood, Fla. The tournament raised approximately $75,000 for the local organization. That brought to $200,000 the total amount that the annual tournament has raised for Heart of Florida United Way in the three years it’s been held.
“This event has raised the largest amount to benefit our organization of any golf tournament held in Central Florida,” commented Leigh Smith, vice president of business development for Heart of Florida United Way.
GUCA Presents Scholarships
The Georgia Utility Contractors Association awarded scholarships totaling $10,000 to five construction-management students at four-year higher-education institutions in the state of Georgia.
Three of the scholarships went to students attending Southern Polytechnic State University. They were: Joseph Alan Johnson, Jonathan Robertson and Marie Benavidez. Additionally, Jesse Bentley and Jeremy Daniel, each attending Georgia Southern University, were also awarded scholarships.
