Terry Stiles of Stiles Corp. Named "Industry Leader of the Year"

The University of Florida Center for Real Estate Studies has honored Terry Stiles, chairman and CEO of Stiles Corp. of Fort Lauderdale, with its first "Industry Leader of the Year Award."

Stiles has been at the helm of the Stiles Corp. since 1971. The firm provides development, design, construction, financing, realty, property management and landscaping services.

Stiles Corp. received top honors as "National Developer of the Year" from the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties in 2000, and won the "Developer of the Year" award from the South Florida chapter in 2003.

Construction Industry Raises $100,000 for Arnold Palmer Foundation

Led by health-care construction firm Robins & Morton, 60 golfers raised $100,000 for the Arnold Palmer Hospital Foundation in an Orlando tournament recently. Tournament players represented companies collaborating in the construction and renovation of Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children & Women in Orlando.

The new Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies is a 400,000-sq.-ft., 13-story facility with 273 beds. The facility includes a 112-bed neonatal intensive care unit, the fourth largest in the nation.

The hospital campus also includes the renovation of Bert Martin's Champions for Children Emergency Department and Trauma Center. The 23,500-sq.-ft. addition will house 33 beds.

Rocky McMichen, division manager for Robins & Morton, said "Our tournament was a kind of celebration for those who have been fortunate enough to work on this project. It gives us a chance to show our gratitude and give back to the hospital in a way that will benefit the Orlando community."

RS&H Opens Atlanta Office

Jacksonville, Fla-based Reynolds Smith & Hills, an architectural, engineering, planning and environmental services firm, has opened an office in Atlanta. The office will serve transportation and infrastructure, with emphasis on roadway and bridge design, environmental services, traffic operations/planning, water/wastewater, community design and public facilities, and program management.

Beck Named Florida AIA's Builder of the Year

The Florida Association of the American Institute of Architects recently honored The Beck Group of Tampa as its 2005 "Builder of the Year." The award recognizes exemplification of a sincere and genuine interest in encouraging and affecting outstanding craftsmanship and workmanship in the performance of architectural work. This is the third time in five years that Beck has received this honor.

Skanska Named a "Wireless Innovator"

InformationWeek magazine recently recognized Skanska USA Building for its accomplishments in wireless innovation. The honor was part of the magazine's 17th annual InformationWeek 500, which seeks to honor information technology innovators in all business sectors.

The magazine recognized Skanska for its efforts in addressing the costs of traditional methods of paperwork at construction sites and its initiative to equip on-site supervisors and project managers with wireless infrastructure, tablet PCs and BlackBerrys.

Cummins South, Cummins Southeastern Join Together

Cummins Inc. has announced that a new joint venture distributorship has been formed, effectively joining the territories of Cummins South and Cummins Southeastern Power. This new distributorship will be called Cummins Power South and will be owned in part by Cummins Inc.

This transition is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2006.

Cummins Power South's territory will cover the states of Georgia and Florida, along with the Chattanooga area of Tennessee and select areas of the Caribbean. The company will be headquartered in Atlanta.

Ring Power Creates New Division

Ring Power Corp., based in St. Augustine, Fla., has created a new governmental division. The division will have a hub in Tampa.

ASC Construction Equipment Announces New Facilities

Charlotte-based ASC Construction Equipment USA, a provider of Volvo construction equipment in the Southeast, announced that it has added two branches, in Greenville, S.C., and Huntsville, Ala.
