Palmetto Brick Co. Announces
$25 Million Expansion
Palmetto Brick Co. of Cheraw, S.C., recently announced plans
for a $25 million expansion to its Cheraw, S.C., headquarters.
The expansion is being undertaken to increase the company's
residential and commercial brick production by 50 percent,
from 100 million to 150 million brick per year. The company
expects to add 20 new employees to fulfill the increased manufacturing
capacity.
Construction was expected to last 10 months, with production
scheduled to begin in October. The new facility will focus
on commercial brick manufacturing, allowing the current plant
to expand its residential brick output.
Palmetto Brick is one of the only remaining family-owned
brick manufacturing companies within the United States in
service today.
SPX Sells BOMAG for $446 Million
SPX Corp. of Charlotte announced it has completed the sale
of its BOMAG compaction equipment business to Fayat for $446
million. SPX will use the proceeds to pay down debt.
BOMAG, based in Boppard, Germany, is an international manufacturer
of heavy and light equipment for soil, asphalt and refuse
compaction.
AIA Atlanta Recognizes Tony Aeck
Tony Aeck, managing principal of Lord, Aeck & Sargent
Architecture of Atlanta, has been awarded the Ivan Allen Sr.
Trophy by the American Institute of Architects Atlanta Chapter.
Established in 1957 in honor of former Atlanta Mayor Ivan
Allen, the award is given annually to an AIA Atlanta member
judged to have made the greatest contribution of service to
the community and who has therefore sustained the highest
ideals of the profession.
Aeck joins both his father, architect Richard L. Aeck, who
was presented with the award in 1972, and his business partner
Larry Lord, as recipients of this honor.
Lord, Aeck & Sargent is headquartered in Atlanta and
has branch offices in Chapel Hill, N.C., and Ann Arbor, Mich.
