The American Society of Civil Engineers of Reston, Va., presented two of four national awards to distinguished civil engineers from Florida and Georgia. The awards were presented during ASCE's 2004 Civil Engineering Conference and Exposition, held in Baltimore on Oct. 22, 2004.

Steven C. McCutcheon, president-elect of ASCE's Georgia section, won the "2004 Government Civil Engineer of the Year Award." This award recognizes a distinguished civil engineer employed in public service. McCutcheon is a senior environmental engineer with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's National Exposure Research Laboratory. McCutcheon has worked in federal research and development for 18 years, and is a pioneer and internationally known expert in the field of phytoremediation - using plants for waste management. He also recently won the Georgia Engineering Alliance's "2004 Engineer of the Year in Government."

John Deere, Liebherr Sign Exclusivity Agreement

Liebherr Construction Equipment Co., Newport News, Va., announced an agreement with John Deere's Construction and Forestry Division of Moline, Ill., to end their current dual-branding strategy for large crawler dozers sold in the North American market and to grant John Deere an exclusivity agreement for these products.

Under an agreement signed in December 2000, Liebherr has provided large crawler dozers and crawler loaders under both the Liebherr and John Deere brands. The new agreement will grant John Deere exclusivity for the two large Deere crawler dozers, the 234-hp 950C and the 330-hp 1050C. As part of this agreement, Liebherr will discontinue marketing the comparable PR 742 and PR 752 in North America except for mining applications.

Two crawler loader models in the original agreement, the Liebherr LR 622 and LR 632 and the John Deere 655C and 755C will continue to be marketed through their respective North American dealer channels.
