Georgia Contract Activity
Gets a Jump on '06
The value of Georgia construction contract activity started
2006 on an exceedingly positive note, as all three sectors
reported solid double-digit growth in January, compared to
a year ago, McGraw-Hill Construction reported recently. The
value of contracts signed during January for future construction
totaled about $2.2 billion, compared to the nearly $1.8 billion
reported a year ago. That equaled a 25 percent gain over the
year-ago figure.
The biggest market, residential, improved by 18 percent compared
to January 2005 and totaled roughly $1.3 billion, up from
last year's $1.1 billion. Showing the greatest percentage
increase, however, was the nonresidential category, which
jumped 36 percent to tally $508.2 million for the month. The
value of nonbuilding contracts also increased by a nearly
identical amount, improving by 35 percent to approximately
$379.2 million, compared to last year's $280.6 million.
