Georgia Contract
Activity Improves Again in May
The value of contracts for future construction in the state
of Georgia improved by 7 percent in May, McGraw-Hill Construction
reported. Overall, contracts for the month totaled approximately
$2.1 billion, compared to last May's roughly $2 billion figure.
The nonbuilding construction category, which includes roads
and bridges, showed the greatest percentage gain, improving
by 13 percent to total approximately $224.5 million for May.
Nonresidential contracts improved by 8 percent to total approximately
$570 million. The value of residential contracts increased
by 5 percent, to total approximately $1.3 billion for the
month.
So far in 2005, the value of Georgia contract activity is
3 percent ahead of the pace of the first five months of 2004,
with about $9.9 billion in contracts reported. Residential,
with approximately $6.25 billion in new contracts, is even
compared to the same period of 2004. Despite its May improvement,
nonresidential remains 2 percent behind for the year-to-date,
and totals nearly $2.3 billion. The nonbuilding category is
32 percent ahead of last year's pace, with roughly $1.4 billion
in new contracts reported.
