Catalfumo Starts Construction of 2700 North Ocean

Catalfumo Construction and Development of Palm Beach Gardens has started construction of 2700 North Ocean on Singer Island. The project will be comprised of two 27-story towers and will include 242 residential and resort units. The project was designed by Robert M. Swedroe of Miami Beach.

Units will range in price from $1.5 million to more than $5 million.

Florida Contract Activity Flat in November

Nonresidential contracts fell notably in November and the overall value of Florida contracts for future construction signed during the month was flat compared to the same period of a year ago, McGraw-Hill Construction reported recently. Overall, the total value of new November contracts was estimated at roughly $4.5 billion.

The nonresidential sector dropped by 27 percent, to total $728.9 million for the month, compared to last November's $996.1 million. The residential market continued its escalation, improving by 17 percent compared to last November, with nearly $3.5 billion in new contracts. The nonbuilding sector, which includes streets and highways, bridges and sewer and water projects, fell by 44 percent to total approximately $303.1 million, compared to last year's $540.5 million.

For the first eleven months of 2005, Florida activity is valued at roughly $63.4 billion, or about 17 percent ahead of the same period of a year ago. The nonresidential category is down by 3 percent, totaling $10.1 billion. The value of nonbuilding contracts, estimated at nearly $6.1 billion, is 5 percent ahead of 2004's pace. Residential is approximately 25 percent ahead of last year, with a cumulative value of nearly $47.2 billion.

Slattery & Associates Designing CityScape in Delray Beach

Boca Raton-based Slattery & Associates is designing the five-story CityScape mixed-use project in Delray Beach. The project, scheduled to start construction in the summer, will include 75 residential units on the upper four floors and 28,000 sq. ft. of office, retail and restaurant space at the ground level.

The project is Slattery's fourth in Delray Beach's downtown area. Porten Companies of Deerfield Beach is the project owner.

Fawley Bryant to Design $22.6 Million Collier Co. School

Fawley Bryant Architects of Bradenton has been awarded the contract for the new 158,342 sq.-ft., $22.6 million, two-story Middle School "EE" prototype by the School District of Collier County.

An earlier version of the same prototype middle school received monetary rebates of over $3 million for the Manatee County School District from the SMART Schools Clearinghouse. Collier County School Board plans to build eight new middle schools over the next five years.

CORE Construction Picked as CM for Orlando Nursing Home

CORE Construction of Orlando has been selected to manage the construction of the Adventist Care Center Nursing Home, located on the campus of Florida Hospital in Orlando.

The project will be comprised of a four-story building with 74,000 sq. ft. of space for 102 beds on three floors dedicated to nursing home care. The facility also will include 25,000 sq. ft. of shell space on the fourth floor.
