The Peabody Orlando
Project Cost: $250 million
The long-anticipated expansion of The Peabody Orlando hotel across from the Orange County Convention Center broke ground in 2008.
Balfour Beatty Construction of Plantation, Fla., is building the $250-million, 32-story, 750-room hotel and the 300,000 sq ft of meeting space, including a 55,000-sq-ft, pillar-free ballroom. Construction went vertical in the fall. The room tower is a reinforced, cast-in-place concrete structure, and the ballroom employs structural steel.
The expansion also will add a 15,000-sq-ft spa; restaurants; a seven-story, 2,100-car parking garage; and renovation of the existing hotel. The Peabody expects to open the garage, being built by METRO Construction of Memphis, this year and its new tower in fall 2010.
