Miami Carol City Senior High School, Phase B & C

Coastal Construction of Miami began construction on phases B and C of the Carol City High School in Miami Gardens, Fla., in July. The 370,000-sq-ft replacement school will provide space for 2,800 students.

The campus consists of nine buildings, including a two-story administration building; three-story administration building with a media center and classrooms; three-story classroom and science laboratory building; two-story classroom building; one-story gymnasium; one-story auditorium; one-story vocational academy; one-story kitchen and dining area; and a two-story classroom center and clinic. Construction is a combination of tilt-up concrete and structural steel.

Crews will complete the project in three phases. A classroom building was finished in 2007. The new high school is scheduled for completion in September 2010, and the demolition of the old school and installation of new athletic fields should wrap up in June 2011.
