Mount Pleasant Hospital and Medical Office Building

Project Cost: $93.2 million

Mount Pleasant Hospital and Medical Office Building

Aiming to meet the needs of a growing Mount Pleasant, S.C., community, Roper St. Francis Healthcare of Charleston, S.C., is developing a new Mount Pleasant Hospital and a medical office building on a 78-acre greenfield site.

The area’s population has doubled in the past 15 years, and the hospital expects it to increase another 19% in the next five years to more than 100,000 people. The project represents a $150 million investment by the health system.

BE&K Building Group of Charlotte, N.C., broke ground on the $93.2-million construction, 215,000-sq-ft, 86-bed hospital in May 2008. The concrete-frame structure sits on a precast concrete-pile, pile-cap and grade-beam foundation.

The project also includes a three-story, 91,000-sq-ft medical office building, which in addition to providing space for private practice physicians will house some diagnostic services and hospital administrative functions, as well as a remote central energy plant. The health system plans to develop only half of the site, with the balance left green and protected.
