Wind Capital Group is planning construction of a renewable wind energy facility in Belle Glade, Palm Beach County. The project has been submitted for conditional use approval. Greenhouse Holdings is in preliminary planning for its Carlstrom National Security Training Center project. The firm, acting as developer for the military-style training center, has not chosen a site for the project, which has an estimated value of $151 million. Officials are considering sites in Polk, Charlotte, Desoto, Glades, Highlands, Hillsborough, Lake, Okechobee and Orange counties. Jacoby Development is interviewing potential architects for Porsche’s new North American Headquarters at Aerotropolis, near the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Gables Residential Services hired Facchina Construction of Florida to build 4585 Ponce, a multifamily development in Coral Gables, Fla., consisting of two 10-story towers with 250 residential units. THE U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, has hired McCarthy Building Cos. to oversee renovation and expansion of the Winn Army Hospital at Fort Stewart. Designed by Leo A. Daly, the project includes a 65,000-sq-ft addition and 1,000 sq ft of renovation work. The $23-million fixed-price contract, slated to start construction in July, will seek LEED Silver certification. Oliver McMillan Inc. has started pre-leasing activities for portions of its Buckhead Atlanta mixed-used development in Atlanta. Balfour Beatty Construction is the contractor for the estimated $300-million project, which includes 300,000 sq ft of restaurant and retail space, two apartment buildings and 40,000 sq ft of office space. Georgia Southern University is planning a July start of construction for its new Biology Building on the school’s Statesboro campus. Watkins Associated Developers is finalizing land acquisition and hopes to start construction by late 2011 on its LakePoint Sporting Community and Town Center project in Emerson. The project will include 16 baseball fields, 12 tournament soccer and lacrosse fields, a 20,000-seat stadium, headquarters buildings for several associations, a 90,000-sq-ft training facility, retail and hotels. The North Carolina Dept. of Transportation received six bids for its grading/bridge/paving project on State Road 1415 in Flat Rock, Cumberland County. Clemson University Restoration Institute has awarded a $22-million contract to Choate Construction Co. for construction management of the world’s largest wind turbine drivetrain testing facility, to be located in a 82,264-sq-ft former Navy warehouse in North Charleston, S.C. Bid of the Week

Reservoir Repair, Expansion In June, Tampa Bay Water, Clearwater, Fla., approved contract negotiations with Kiewit Infrastructure Group for the firm’s $162.4-million proposal to repair the utility’s cracking Tampa reservoir and expand it by 3 billion gallons. Kiewit proposes removal and reclamation of the reservoir’s existing flat-plate soil cement and soil wedge and the geomembrane layer, and adding embankment fill and drainage. The proposal covers maintenance and monitoring as well as renewal and replacement costs for a 50-year span.
